Graduate Profile
Matthew Chapman (2006 Graduate)

This journey was incredible and easily my most favorite schooling activity in my life.

Each one of my fellow students helped me learn, grow and become more of what I
need to be. I will never forget this, and each of them has a place in my heart.

What is the name of your business and where do you practice?

I have a business partner - Kathleen Horvath, who graduated with me. She had been practicing Western and BTB Feng Shui before, but when we were studying at the Golden Gate School of Feng Shui we both just clicked, and find that working together is easier. We are building our company with business and high end residential clients. We offer a full line of services, including EMF surveys, Chinese astrology, Feng Shui, color consultation and Earth energy work. Our business name is 5 Elements Group, LLC. We are based in the San Francisco Bay Area, though we practice anywhere

What were you doing before you took the program?
I had just started a small business doing interior redesign and staging. I had taken a class in Western Feng Shui, and was intrigued. Before that I worked as Director of Operations at the Pacific Stock Exchange.

What attracted you to the program? How did you come to make the decision to enroll?

I knew that the Feng Shui I had learned was just a sampling and that I desired to know more about how Feng Shui came about. This school offered a complete program in classical Feng Shui, so I enrolled.

What changed in your life during the program?

II realized that I could really become a full time Feng Shui consultant, and make a living!

I knew that the Feng Shui I had learned was just a sampling and that I desired to know more about how Feng Shui came about. This school offered a complete program in classical Feng Shui, so I enrolled.

What changed in your life during the program?

I realized that I could really become a full time Fung Shui consultant, and make a living!

What was the most rewarding aspect of your participation with GGSFS?

The people I met, and the relationships that were created. I have new friends for life, and they all really understand me!

What is your experience with and impressions of the Feng Shui community at large?

It is a mixed bag, since some of the practitioners that I have met seem secretive. But those that have studied classical Feng Shui seem more open. For the most part, these people are quite intuitive and we feel the same things, especially about ecology, politics, etc.

Describe your success as it relates to the Golden Gate School of Feng Shui.

My business has increased, and I am able to charge more money with my advanced education.

In what specific ways does GGSFS show up in your life today?

I still work with fellow classmates and share information. Being in the Graduate Program gave me a whole new set of people to work with as well! [The Graduate Program is offered to a select group of graduates each year. Participants support current students through their journeys at the Golden Gate School, and receive advanced training.]

What advice would you give to someone considering enrolling in the program?

It will be hard work, and quite a commitment but if you are really serious about learning Feng Shui, and finding ways to use it or practice full time, this is the program for you!

What books would you recommend to others studying Feng Shui?

Read the I Ching! Find a translation that you like, and explore a hexagram each day. Also, the Tao Te Ching. Both of these are wonderful, and for me are at the heart of what Feng Shui and metaphysics are all about. For specific Feng Shui information, Eva Wong's book 'A Master Course in Feng Shui' and for astrology, Theodore Lau's book 'The Handbook of Chinese Horoscopes,' and '9 Star Ki' by Robert Sachs.
